A MASSIVE water slide through the centre of Chard is just one of the fundraising activities Jenny Kenton is planning for her second year as Mayor – but she needs help.

The event, on Bank Holiday Monday in late August, would replicate the Bristol Park and Slide project which saw 360 people slide on inflatable lilos down a soapy water slide in the city centre.

The slide uses plastic sheets, water and washing up liquid and the gradual slope down High Street and Fore Street would be ideal.

Cllr Kenton said: “I am quite excited, it should be really fun, it’s not dangerous and people of all ages can slide down the middle of Chard.

“I am definitely giving it a go. I hope it is popular because it is a chance to do something fun and the money goes to charity, too.”

Money raised from the event will go towards the Mayor’s five charities – Chard Museum, Chard and Crewkerne After Stroke Care, Chard Carers Support Group, Chard Town Team and Chard Area Youth Committee.

Cllr Kenton hopes businesses will help sponsor the event for it to be a success.

She needs plastic sheeting, hay bales, lilos and sponge or carpet to be laid under the slide.

A firewalk on July 19 in which participants will be sponsored to walk barefoot across hot coals for charity will also raise funds.

To help sponsor either of the events, call Deputy Mayor Garry Shortland on 07982-591025.
