A £1MILLION development of 11 homes in Chard is taking shape.

The development in Great Western Road is in its second and final phase of a £5.1million mixed development of 56 affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.

The first 45 properties were completed in June last year.

Raglan Housing, working with South Somerset District Council and local contractor Brookvale Homes, is building six three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom and one one-bedroom flat.

Raglan business development manager Matthew Crucifix said: “We’re delighted to be making good progress on their construction. With house prices out of most local people’s reach, there is a real demand for high quality rented accommodation in the community.”

Tim Carroll, Deputy Leader of South Somerset District Council, said: “It will be a significant achievement that, together with other sites being developed with other housing association partners, we now expect over 80 new affordable homes to be completed in Chard this financial year.”
