BUSINESSES affected by flooding in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne can receive help to get back on their feet from South Somerset District Council.

It says help, funded through the Government's Business Flood Support Scheme, comes in the form of support grants, business rate relief and funding for measures to make properties more resistant in future.

Support grants are available to all small and medium-sized businesses whose ability to trade has been severely impacted by flooding at any point between December 1 last year and March 31 this year.

Businesses applying may qualify for a one-off grant to be used to offset any costs which cannot be covered by insurance.

The scheme is aimed at covering items such as clean-up costs, materials and exceptional costs to help businesses continue trading, for example, marketing and promotion.

The grants do not need to be repaid but eligibility criteria must be met to ensure that funds are awarded to those most severely impacted by flooding.

Any business that believes it has been affected can download an application form at www.south somerset.gov.uk/floodsupportapplica tion or call 01935-462444.
