THE most expensive road to buy a home in Chard is SIX times pricier than the cheapest street in the town.

House price sales in the last five years from OurProperty.co.uk show properties in The Orchard, off Forton Road, are on average the priciest to live in at £380,625.

Exclusive addresses in streets nearby, including Holbear Grange, currently sell for an average of £358,125, followed by Hartsfield on £291,250.

Other hotspots include Hornsbury Hill (£287,500) just to the north of the town, Touchstone Close (£280,000), just off High Street in the town centre, and Snowdon Heights, which comes in at £276,000.

Brudenell Avenue in Poole tops the South-West table at an average property price of £1.98million.

Mark Savill, owner of Novahomes in Chard, said the top-end properties are in areas perceived to be exclusive, so buyers pay a premium.

He added: “Areas on the edge of town are more attractive because you have less traffic and fewer people walking about.

“Touchstone Close and Hornsbury Hill are slightly different but the size of the properties is larger with a lot of land with them.”

The average house price in Chard at the end of last year was £165,989, a 4% increase on the previous year.

Figures show detached properties average £218,038, semi-detached homes £149,000 and terraced houses £121,689.

In 13 streets in Chard the average price paid for a property in the last five years was below £100,000.
