POLICE are appealing to motorists on the M5 who may have been targeted by a man arrested for fraud.

On Saturday, March 29, a 44-year-old man was arrested at Taunton Deane Services on the M5, in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation by police forces throughout the south-west region.

This investigation was launched after police received a number of reports from motorists, at various motorway services, that they had been approached by a man claiming to have broken down and asking to borrow cash to travel to Cornwall. The man accompanied several victims to a cash machine, in order to withdraw cash. In each case, the money was never seen again.

A patrolling officer from Avon and Somerset Police Roads Policing Unit spotted and arrested a man at Taunton Dean Services.

The police are keen to hear from any other motorists who may have been approached by someone asking for cash at motorway services in similar circumstances to that described above.
