DAVID Laws, MP for Yeovil, will meet representatives from the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group tomorrow (February 28) to discuss his concerns about proposals to cut services for stroke patients at Yeovil Hospital.

The plans would see stroke services moved to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

A final decision will be made in the coming months.

Mr Laws said: “I’m meeting the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group for a second time to discuss my continued concerns about proposals to move stroke services from Yeovil Hospital to Musgrove Park in Taunton, and to pass on the representations of many of my constituents who have contacted me about the proposals.

“With strokes it’s imperative that people get treated as quickly as possible.

“Travel distances to Taunton can be quite long, particularly when the roads are busy, and this would be a big concern.

“On top of this, the plans don’t appear to involve any savings. “We must also factor in the added travel cost and inconvenience for relatives.”
