A FENCE has been put up to stop people driving along an Ilminster road at risk of falling in a landslip.
The 70m stretch of New Road (pictured), also known as Cemetery Hill, was closed on February 13 after cracks in the road started to widen.
But numerous drivers ignored or moved the ‘road closed’ signs and used the route as usual.
Now a metal fence has been put up to block drivers, while staff from Somerset County Council’s highways department monitor the situation.
A council spokesman said: “There are big cracks and they are still widening. “The road is still closed and will be for the foreseeable future. It’s hard to put a timeframe on it.”
