A BIG-NAME fashion designer from South Somerset with a major celebrity fanbase is calling for her star supporters to ‘make as much noise as possible’ about the floods.

Alice Temperley, originally from Burrow Hill, counts Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow among her fans.

Temperley’s 98-year-old grandfather was among the elderly residents forced to evacuate their homes in Thorney because of the floods.

She told the News: “It’s so sad, because he’s 98, so it’s really confusing for him – he’s lived in this house his whole life.

“It’s just terrible it’s happened to people of that age. Obviously the plaster and the electrics are out, the white goods need replacing. Basically the whole house is completely ruined and will easily take half a year to get up and running.

“I just worry it will happen again and again. Last year was supposed to be a one-off. They’ve only said they’re going to dredge 8km of the river. The Levels and Moors have been managed for hundreds of years – this is what happens when dredging stops.”

Temperley used her fashion show at London Fashion Week 2014 and profile in the fashion world to launch the #FloodSupport campaign.

Held in tandem with the Somerset Emergency Flood Relief Fund Appeal, a further £100,000 has now been raised since #FloodSupport began.

Actress Gillian Anderson and Florence And The Machine singer Florence Welch are among Temperley’s backers who have ‘social-media’d’ their message of support.
