AN inspirational seven-year-old boy from Ilminster whose courage and caring nature has changed his mum's life won a special award.

Kirsty Swain, 33, was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 17 and she and her husband Darren started to teach their son Connor what to do when she has convulsions from when he was two.

Connor was crowned Young Carer of the Year at South Somerset District Council's Gold Star awards to a standing ovation and cheers at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil.

Kirsty said: “I am so glad that he has been recognised for what he does for me through this award. He is an amazing little boy.”

THOUSANDS of people across the district gathered to remember those who died fighting for this country in all conflicts since the First World War.

Remembrance events in Chard featured the town's 'biggest parade in living memory', in which dignitaries made their way from the Guildhall to St Mary's Church.

Ilminster's St Mary's Church was full of residents, veterans, members of the armed forces, Army and Air Cadets, St John Ambulance cadets, Scouts, Guides, Brownies and representatives from many other organisations.

Meanwhile, Crewkerne's Royal British Legion was joined by members of the Army Cadet Force and other civic dignitaries in marching along Memorial Avenue to the First World War memorial statue, where wreaths were laid and a two-minute silence was observed.
