MOTORISTS could experience delays on the A303 over the next six weeks.

Work began on Monday to improve the road surface between Sparkford roundabout and Ilchester Interchange.

This section will be closed from Monday to Friday overnight from 8pm and 6am. Diversions will be signposted.

Highways Agency project sponsor Mike Webster said: “The surface of this section of the A303 has reached the end of its life. This work will improve the road surface, prolong the life of the carriageway and help to keep the highway operating safely for many years to come.”

While the affected section of the A303 is closed the following signed diversions will be in place:

  • Road users travelling westbound on the A303 will be diverted onto the A359 to Yeovil and return to the A303 via the A37.
  • Road users travelling eastbound will be diverted onto the A37 to Yeovil and return to the A303 via the A359.
