SHOPPERS can take advantage of free parking on three Saturdays during the run-up to Christmas across towns in South Somerset.

Motorists can park for free in Ilminster, Chard and Crewkerne on Saturday, December 7, 14 and 21.

The move is to encourage more shoppers to visit the towns in the run-up to Christmas and as a boost to local traders.

On Saturday, a national campaign called ‘Small Business Saturday’ will be dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.

It is hoped that people will get out and about in their nearest town to support independent retailers and make use of their local shops.

Cllr Angie Singleton, Area West Chairman at South Somerset District Council, said: “We hope that lots of people will support their local shops by doing their Christmas shopping in Ilminster, Chard and Crewkerne and these free parking days will make it even more attractive to do so.”
