SWANMEAD pupils in years 7 and 8 are enjoying modern foreign languages of a different kind this half-term.
With the school’s new French teacher not due to start until November, all Key Stage 3 pupils at the Ilminster school are enjoying a six-week block of Japanese studies.
From discovering more about the traditions and cultures of the country to learning common words, head teacher Mark Walker said the children have flourished while developing their skills in this unusual subject area.
He added: “The language is a difficult one but due to it being a brand new thing to them they are very much enjoying the fact that they are learning a lot and learning it quickly.”
