50th Crewkerne Young Farmers' ploughing match this weekend
9:00am Friday 4th October 2013 in News
CREWKERNE'S Young Farmers’ Club is holding its 50th annual ploughing match tomorrow (October 5).
The ever-popular event will take place at the Hinton Park Estate in Hinton St George, by permission of Mr and Mrs Ruell, and will feature examples of ploughing from a large number and variety of tractors.
A number of teams of horses will also be demonstrating their ploughing skills. Interest in the special veterans’ class is high, and entries from past members with vintage tractors and ploughs are welcome.
The class is being held to celebrate the milestone anniversary of the event and is open to those who competed in the early ploughing matches, in 1962, 1963 or 1964.
Tim Frost, founding chairman of the match, said: “It would be wonderful to see a large gathering of past members, not only competing on the day, but also celebrating the 50th match and supporting the current generation of young farmers.”
Members of young farmers’ clubs across the country continue to act as ambassadors for agriculture and aim to educate and train those aged between ten and 26 in rural, agricultural and life skills.
The event will be signposted from the A30 at Roundham and entry to the site and parking are free.
Refreshments are available. For details and entry forms, contact Philip Hardwill via email@example.com or on 01460-30661.
