A TEAM of 1,000 weed-eating weevils have chomped their way through invasive aquatic ferns that were killing fish and other wildlife by reducing light and oxygen levels in the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal.
The 2mm-long weevils have freed the waterway of the harmful native North American weed after they were released there in July.
