KIND-HEARTED folk across Somerset are gearing up to raise cash for Comic Relief today (March 15).

From wacky outfits and cake sales to gruelling challenges, people are doing all they can to top last year's total.

At the Blackbrook Pavilion Sports Centre in Taunton, gym members Katie Baines and Clare Baker (above) got the ball rolling early this week by jumping on to static bikes to ride for 10 hours in aid of the cause.

Other events taking place today include a prize raffle at Paprika in Wellington and a bake-off challenge at the Hankridge Farm Sainsbury’s store in Taunton.

Comic Relief was launched from a refugee camp in Sudan on Christmas Day in 1985 with the aim of ending world poverty.
