10:56am Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News
THE annual Open Exhibition at Ilminster Arts Centre started yesterday (March 12) and will run through to Saturday, April 6, but organisers want YOUR help.
People are invited to go along and look at the exhibits on display and vote their favourite piece of art in the exhibition which is being sponsored by Branston Ltd.
Work by established and emerging artists across the South West feature on the walls both the galleries and main hall with artwork in all media on display – including paintings, drawings, sculptures and glasswork.
Judging was carried out by an invited panel of prestigious local artists who had a tough job selecting work for the exhibition as the standard of entries was very high.
Results were as follows: Winner – Alison Bowskill for Gig Racing; Joint Second – Shena Bulcock for Marchwood and Richard Kent for Home Sweet Home; highly commended – Sarah Clemens for Charmouth, Trevor Salway-Roberts for Off and On, Heidi Taylor for AutumnTrebach No 1, and Carole Watson for Vannes.
The Visitors’ Choice Award of £50 will be given to the artist whose work is most popular with visitors. In addition to the cash prizes awarded, winning artists also have the opportunity exhibit their work in a special Prize Winners’ Exhibition in 2014.
The exhibition is open at Ilminster Arts Centre from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Admission is free.
