FIRE crews released a cat which had got stuck in a car engine in Chard this evening (Tue).

Crews were called to Furnham Road in the town shortly before 6pm after a report the cat had been struck by a car and was stuck in the engine.

On arrival crews confirmed the cat was stuck in the engine compartment of the vehicle and that they were unable to release it from the top.

A rescue tender from Yeovil then attended the scene to provide jacks so the crew could raise the vehicle up and release the cat from underneath.

A vet from a nearby veterinary practice attended and sedated the cat before the crew released the animal using vehicle jacks and chocks.

The cat had pelvic injuries and was taken to the vet for treatment.
