Course record at Combe 10k
6:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in News
A NEW course record was set in the annual Combe St Nicholas 10k on Sunday – and ‘girl power’ was on show in the ever-popular fun run.
The event, staged for the past six years, raises money for Combe St Nicholas Primary School’s Parents & Friends Association.
The main 10k race took the runners up a hill at the start before heading out into the country lanes and arriving back in the village and the finishing line on the school playing field.
Phil Burden, of Taunton-based Running Forever, was first in a record time of 34 minutes and 38 seconds.
He finished nearly five minutes ahead of runner-up Tom Priest, of Crewkerne Running Club, in 39 minutes and 25 seconds with Ed Stahl, also of Crewkerne, third.
The first lady finisher was Alexandra Cutts, of Exeter-based South-West Road Runners, who also took top female honours on New Year’s Day at the Chard 10k.
The girls showed the boys the way in the 2k Fun Run, taking first, second and third.
Tamsin Edge, of Tatworth, raced home in eight minutes and 25 seconds – a long way ahead of second-placed Molly Brake and Flora Layard in third.
Organisers would like to thank everyone who took part in the event and everyone who helped with the jobs needed to stage a 10k and fun run.
They would also like to thank Chris Smith, of Evolution Tae Kwon Do, who helped the runners get warmed up with vigorous exercises.
