The platoon’s annual awards night was attended by many parents and supporters of the cadets and the guest of honour was Colonel Paul Richardson, of the Somerset Army Cadet Battalion, and Deputy Mayor of Chard, Cllr Jenny Kenton.

The hard work of everyone involved in the platoon over the year had seen the group win the Most Improved Platoon in Salamanca Company, beating eight other platoons to the award.

Individually cadets from the platoon had been involved in many exciting and interesting events and courses and some had represented the Army Cadet Force at regional sports, while others had attended other prestigious engagements.

Other cadets were involved in specialist signals and first aid training, along with BTEC qualification courses.

Awards were as follows: Colonel Paul Richardson Award for best new recruit, Cdt Sasha Deepholts; highest individual achievement, L/Cpl Karen Salter; Platoon Commander’s Com-mendation, Cpl Jenna Cox; most improved cadet award, L/Cpl Daniel Burke; award for achievement outside of the APC, L/Cpl Sydney Brooke. Also awarded on the night were Star APC Completion Badges to L/Cpl Karen Salter and L/Cpl Sydney Brooke, while Cdt Zac Castle received the Regimental Cap Badge for completion of basic training.

After the awards were presented the cadets performed some demonstrations and talks for those assembled to show and explain some of the skills they had learned over the year.

Platoon Commander C/Sgt Barry Gates said that all the members of the platoon could be very proud of the efforts that they had put in over the past 12 months.
