POLICE are urging people to secure their homes to avoid becomng victims of crime.
Reports of burglaries tend to increase at this time of year with the lure of Christmas presents for would-be thieves.
“In the dark hours please be mindful that it’s very easy for someone to see inside your property if the curtains aren’t drawn,” said PCSO Richard Oaten, of Chard police.
“New Christmas gifts, such as laptops and TVs, attract opportunist thieves.”
If you are going out for the evening use timer switches to turn lights and radios on and off to give the appearance that someone is at home.
