One lane of M5 closed near Bridgwater after car and lorries collide
ONE lane of the M5 is closed northbound between the Bridgwater north and Burnham junctions of the M5 - 23 and 22 - following a collision between two lorries and a car.
It happened on the hard shoulder around 9.20am. There are no reports of injuries and everybody was out of their vehicles by the time fire crews arrived from Bridgwater and Taunton.
However, a fire service spokesman said: “The lorries were leaking approximately 200 litres of fuel. Crews used environmental packs, soil and sealing putty to mop up and stem the leaks and also made the car safe.
“The Environment Agency and Highways Agency were also requested at this incident together with the Incident Support Unit from Taunton to assist with the leaking fuel.
“Crews continued to use absorbant pads on the carriageway to clean up the spillage of diesel and have now handed the incident to the Highways Agency.”
Traffic is reported to be moving smoothly.
