CHARD woman Andrea Woods is ‘drying out’ to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Andrea has signed up with the national Dryathlon campaign by giving up alcohol for the whole of January.

“All through January I’m not going to touch alcohol – not a drop,” she said.

Andrea, of Hornsbury Hill Farm, admitted that she likes a drink, but is determined to go the whole month without one.

“I’ve moved all of our leftover Christmas booze into the shed, out of sight and out of mind,” she said.

“I don’t expect my husband, Clive, to stop drinking as well, but I’ve asked him to show a little compassion and not rub my nose in it!

“I plan to stay out of the pub and away from the booze aisle in Tesco. I’m glad it’s the last aisle in the store – I can just turn right after the biscuits!

“I’m hoping to stay strong, and if it goes well I may extend it and see if I can go tee-total for good – that would be an achievement.”

Andrea is hoping to raise as much money as possible in memory of good friend Mary Laken, of Cheddar, who died of cancer in December.
