SCHOOL leavers at Wadham Community School in Crewkerne are being urged to scale down any ambitious plans for their arrival at this year’s prom.

The annual prom at Haselbury Mill sees students dress to impress and arrive in weird, unusual and grand forms of transport.

But the school says students’ and parents’ imagination is getting out of control with a large part of the evening spent trying to get vehicles on to the site to drop off prom-goers.

Last year, for example, the Wadham prom made national news when students Emily Pounde and Hannah Jagger arrived on a trailer as Barbie girls – inside life-sized dolls boxes.

But teacher Peter Hopwood, who helps to organise the prom, said: “We’d ask for the students to think about how they will be arriving at Haselbury as last year a large portion of the evening was waiting for people to arrive, be dropped off and then leave the venue.

“This was especially a problem for methods of travel not suited to Haselbury Mill, which have included in the past stretched limos, double-decker buses and tractors.”

Mr Hopwood added: “In order for students to enjoy all of the evening greater control will be given to how students arrive and how long they have to take photos.”

This year’s Wadham prom is at Haselbury Mill on Wednesday, July 3, from 6pm to 11pm.
