Ilminster Mayor re-elected

THE Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Carol Goodall, has been re-elected for a third term.

Ilminster town councillors unanimously voted for Cllr Goodall to serve as mayor for another year at a meeting on Tuesday.

The re-election comes as a twist to normal proceedings as mayors usually serve a two-year term in Ilminster.

Cllr Goodall, who has been in office since 2006, said she was honoured to receive the support of her fellow councillors.

She said: "It's a privilege to be asked to represent the town as mayor for another year.

"The task is not always easy, the two years that the Tesco issues came into being were particularly hard as emotions were running high in the town.

"However I have the backing of my fellow councillors and the town clerk."

At the top of Cllr Goodall's agenda is to finalise a strategic plan for the future of the town that will be put to planning authorities.

She said: "A lot of our energy this year will be directed at getting the strategic vision for the town sorted.

"We are trying to put together a vision for Ilminster that reflects the needs of the community which will hopefully be accepted by planning officers."

Cllr Margaret Excell will continue as Deputy Mayor.

The following were elected as chairman of the council's sub-committees: finance and policy - Cllr David Miller; open spaces - Cllr Margaret Excell; planning - Cllr Gordon Childs; personnel - Cllr Carol Goodall.

Congratulations and very well done for 2 excellent years as Mayor and best wishes for the year to come.
Bit of a pity that Ilminster town Council could not support either Tescos new store or the possible new Medical Centre but thats democracy!

Hear Hear congratulations to Carol Goodall - she deserves it along with the town council - why should ITC support Tescos - shortly Waitrose will be opening in Crewkerne - then people that don't like Tescos will have more choice. Also the planning application for the new Medical Centre were obviously not up to what they should be? Finally what has it got to do with you as you don't have a say in Ilminster since the last election? It is democracy!!

Today I noticed vacancies for two town councillors. If they are not filled people will be co-opted. God help up if the council co-opt Adam Kennedy again.

Artemis you know a sure way to stop co-options is to ask the council to hold a by-election.
Then you could come out from behind your nomme-de-plume and put your name down for the election.
If enough people want you on the Town Council then I will have to wait again wont I?
Brave enough to put your name down then Artemis??

Well I never, Artemis, I thought you were serious about this town but it seems you did not put your name down to be elected to the Town Council.
At least everyone in the town had a chance to say who they wished to be on the Town Council and they now have two new Councillors of their choice.
