Teenagers arrested following Crewkerne lead theft
TWO teenage boys have been arrested in Crewkerne in connection with a lead theft following some quick thinking from a police community support officer.
A 15-year-old boy from Crewkerne and a 13-year-old boy from Merriott were taken into custody last week after PCSO David Lewis managed to keep at the scene long enough for police officers to arrive.
Police were called to a report of three teenagers acting suspiciously in South Street at 3.45pm Wednesday, March 19.
PCSO Lewis was patrolling the area at the time and spotted the three boys.
He kept two of them talking until officers arrived and arrested them on suspicion of theft.
A quantity of lead stolen from the roof of a garage in South Street was recovered at the scene.
Crewkerne Neighbourhood Sergeant Andy Lloyd said: "We have had a number of reported thefts of lead in the town recently.
"PCSO Lewis was promptly on the scene and his local knowledge meant he recognised the youths.
"His actions are a great example of the benefits PCSOs bring to the neighbourhood. "
The suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact officers at Crewkerne Police Station on 0845-456-7000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
