Update on Combe Street assault

DETECTIVES are appealing for information and witnesses following last night's assault in Chard which left a man with serious head injuries.

More details have emerged and it is now understood that at around 11.45pm last night (Tuesday), a member of the public reported a man had been assaulted in Combe Street.

The 39-year-old man was found a short time later suffering from serious head injuries.

The man was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton with injuries that are described as "life changing, although not believed to be life threatening" at this time.

The area where the man was found in Combe Street has been cordoned off and enquiries into the assault are on going.

A police spokesman said: "We are particularly keen to trace a man who originally reported the incident to police from a telephone outside of Chard Police Station.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Combe Street area of Chard or has any information about how the man came to sustain his injuries."

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

my son was walking home from town up combe street and Holyrood had just finished for the day, and one person from a group threw a bottle of coke at him and called him a weirdo - very intimidating, but what can you do?
