Chard is a poorer place today, I can only hope to achieve what Jean has done for the town over the years.

It is with great shock to learn of the sudden departure of such a much-loved Councillor. Jean Smith, a past Mayor has done so much for the Town and the Council over many years, and I am glad I have had the chance to get to know her and work with her. She will be missed by many.

The news of the death of Jean Smith was unbelievable. A good friend through and beyond our work together for Chard Light Operatic Society. Jean always knew where and what she needed to achieve and worked with all her being to succeed. We laughed at times when we disagreed but always remained good friends. She will be missed by an enormous number of people in the community. R.I.P.
