A WELL known Chard artist has her first solo exhibition running at The Gallery on Holyrood Street throughout February.
Shena Bulcock, who has lived in the area since 1971, was welcomed to the launch of the exhibition on Tuesday, January 31, by a number of supporters and members of the art community.
A wide range of work is on show – and it is striking how different some of the pieces are – you would not imagine all were by the same artist.
This is even more impressive when you learn that Shena has largely gained her experience by teaching herself since attending a foundation course at technical college. She worked from home, restoring and watercolour painting old engravings and original prints while bringing up her two sons.
Shena said: “It is good to see everything together here – you don’t see it like this at home. We are lucky to have The Gallery here in Chard and I’m grateful to Tracey and Simon for giving me this opportunity.”
Over the past six years Shena has tutored art classes and she has also previously exhibited in opens at the Royal West of England academy and Ilminster Arts Centre.
Simon Cooper of The Gallery added: “A lot of people who visit here attend Shena’s art classes and know her through that. She has exhibited here before but this is her first solo exhibition – she’s got enough pieces in all sorts of styles and wanted to have a crack at it.”
