STUDENTS at Holyrood Academy in Chard are getting ready to rock – with their annual production later this month.
This year it is We Will Rock You, the musical featuring the songs of Queen, and the performances will be on site on Tuesday, February 21, Wednesday, February 22, and Thursday, February 23, at 7.30pm.
New head of drama Dan Johnson is hard at work putting the cast through their paces, with rehearsals well under way, as the press were invited to a launch event last Wednesday.
The decision to perform the musical follows on from the success of last year’s production of Grease – and the Academy once more wanted to put on a show not just for the kids – but something for the parents to get into as well.
Meg Lawrence, a year 12 student, who is starring as Killer Queen, her first lead role, after being in all previous productions in her time at the academy, can’t wait to get started.
Meg said: “It has been a lot of hard work but it pays off when you get a lead role. I’m really looking forward to it – today is the first day in costume and everyone is really excited.”
Year 11 student Tom Davison, is playing Galileo and said that the production was also helping him with his Drama GCSE.
Tom added: “I’m a big fan of Queen and have been ever since I was tiny. On the night when everyone is here watching us – that’s what gives us the best boost – it is a wonderful feeling.”
Tickets are available from the school’s learning resource centre – for more information contact 01460-260100.
