AN international folk artist of great distinction is coming to Ilminster this week.

Julie Felix, well known for her performances on The Frost Report in the 1960s, will be in concert at The Warehouse Theatre, Brewery Lane on Sunday, March 6, at 7.30pm.

Julie was part of the great folk movement with Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Tom Paxton and remained in the public eye throughout the 1970s.

Originally from Los Angeles, Julie moved to the UK in 1956 and became the first solo folk artist to be signed to a UK record label when she got a contract with Decca Records.

By 1965 she was a major artist, filling the Royal Albert Hall for one of her concerts and becoming known as ‘Britain’s First Lady of Folk’.

Julie moved to Norway in the late 1970s, where the title track of her 1976 album Hot Chocolata went to number 1 in the singles chart.

In the 1980's she moved back to California, taking a break from the music world. Taking part in a peace march through Central America, inspired Julie to start singing again.

Now 72 and living in Hertfordshire, Julie continues performing and recording, having released 22 studio albums.

Her rich, distinctive voice and powerful song writing have ensured her continuing success through to the present day.

Tickets for the concert cost £10 and are available from Lane’s Garden Shop or via the theatre’s box office on 07943-779880.
