A FILM being shown at Ilminster Arts Centre on February 6 hopes to raise awareness of climate, economical and social changes that could affect the area.
The Power of Community is an uplifting story of how Cubans coped using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens when the Soviet Union collapsed and Cuba faced starvation.
Bernard Genge, author of 10 Actions to Transform Your Life, said: “It shows how local communities came together and in particular re-built their local food economy and improved their health at the same time.
“With real concerns over security of energy supply in the UK and world demand for oil increasing while supplies are declining, many commentators argue that the UK and places like Chard and Ilminster will have to go through what Cuba did.
“This film shows what is possible, probably inevitable and with all the doom and gloom around about climate change and energy concerns shows a very positive response that also re-creates the community spirit.”
The film starts at 7.30pm. Entry is from £3 and free for 12 to16-year-olds accompanied by an adult.
