A FANTASTIC entry of top quality cows and heifers justifiably reflected in an electric trade at Sedgemoor’s February Dairy Sale on Tuesday 21st February with 34 over £2000 and three at 2200gns. First to hit 2200gns was Sam and Hilary Skipper’s “Kingtonmagna Affirmed Linda” who was shown as a calf and sold freshly calved giving in excess of 30kgs. Next was regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler of Dorset whose calved heifer “Bettiscombe Grafeeti Stephanie was giving 38kgs. Their consignment of 19 cows and heifers averaged in excess of £2000, back to 2015 prices! Keith and Jane Hulbert’s continued dispersal completed the trio of 2200gns for “Janke Lilac Susie Red”. Cows topped at 2150gns twice for DC Dennis & Son Ltd’s “Dinnaton Altaross Modbury Beatrice” and RE & HE Bugler & Partner’s “Bettiscombe Jordan Stephanie”, both second calvers. Other Vendors to break the 2000gns barrier was R & M Parker, RD Horton & Son, DJ & VM Norman, Rookhaye Estate, BL Davies & Son and Dimond Farming Ltd.

Ford Partners from Sussex consigned 29 commercial cows and heifers as they are moving to autumn calving. The journey to Sedgemoor was well rewarded to top at 1950gns for a third calver.

Rob Templeman’s 100 cow dispersal retained a large company of purchasers with trade topping at 1820gns for an autumn calving heifer that was still giving 38kgs and due again in May.

The consignment of 36 Noremead bred heifers from CJ Bryant & Son drew a fantastic amount of interest with served heifers selling to 2150gns for “Noremead Lisbon Brenda 2nd”, she travelled to Wales. Others to 1850gns twice for daughters from “Fever” and “Glauco” who both travelled to a volume buyer from Cheshire. Yearlings from the same breeding sold to 1600gns for “Noremead Garner Moth” whose mother sold for 3000gns at the dispersal.

Other incalf heifers sold to 1300gns for a “Jeeves” daughter from J & J Bown of Basingstoke and 1280gns for JA Selway Ltd of Axbridge.

Bulling heifers sold to 780gns for a “Samoa” daughter for The Mapledurham Trust of Reading and an excellent consignment of yearlings from “Oakalby” Friesians of Suffolk sold to 720gns.

An A lot heifer calf from the “Grangemore” dispersal by “Solaris” sold to 580gns and an excellent consignment from W & CJ Westacott of Kent topped at 480gns twice for two red and white calves.

Our Vendors must be congratulated for a superb show of cattle supported by 70 purchasers from across the South West of England to West Wales and as far north as Cheshire with a number of on looking keen to purchase but unsuccessful on the day.
