EVER-popular local artist is well represented in Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s February antiques sale which takes place today (Thursday, February 2) at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

In total nine works by Harry Frier (1849-1921) will feature in the sale. These include a number with a local flavour. One of the pictures is a view of St Margaret’s Almshouses, Taunton, estimated at £200-£250, which is still recognisable to today’s viewer despite being painted in 1917.

The same cannot be said of the canal near Obridge, which is estimated at £120-£150. The scene from 1917 is far more bucolic than any modern age commuter would recognise!

Another view features a watercolour of Coal Orchard from the West which was painted in 1891. It has a pre-sale guide of £200-£300.

A rare watercolour in a similar style, by Wilfrid Hawkins, one of Harry Frier’s few pupils, also makes an appearance.

Proceedings get underway at 10am today and the auctioneers will be kept busy throughout the day with a comprehensive range of excellent lots.

The next antiques sale takes place on Thursday, March 2, and the first quarterly collectors sale of the year will follow on Friday, March 3.

Items for these sales and the biannual sporting sale on Friday, April 7, are now being accepted.
