How Does It Work?

You buy a share of your home (usually between 25% and 75% of the home's value) and pay rent on the remaining share. You can buy bigger shares at a later stage when you can afford to. Local Connection Requirement.

An eligible person means a person who is unable to secure accommodation suitable for their needs in the open housing market within the District of Taunton Deane and who additionally satisfies one or more of the following criteria, namely:

• Immediately prior to the allocation are ordinarily resident within the Parish of Churchstanton

• Have strong local connections with the Parish of Churchstanton, including having a family association in the said parish and/or any periods of ordinary residence in the said parish not immediately before the date upon which any shared ownership property becomes vacant and/or such persons who have permanent employment in the Parish of Churchstanton

• Immediately prior to the allocation have been ordinarily resident within the adjoining parishes of Otterford and/or Pitminster

• In the event of there being no one available on the Homebuy Agent list, any person approved in writing by the Council (such approval not to be unreasonably withheld)

After Buying?

You can buy additional shares at a later date until in some cases you own 100% of your home if you wish to. This is called staircasing and the cost of the additional shares is based on the market value of the property at the time that you purchase the shares.
