More support for News campaign

THE News has received its first wave of support for campaign, Open More Hours, launched this week.

The campaign aims to get police stations in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne to open for longer in a bid to improve local access.

Our latest support comes from Chard Town and South Somerset District Councillor Dave Bulmer.

Dave thinks that people are put off reporting incidents and thinks the stations in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne should be made more accessible for the public.

He said: "I fully support the campaign.

"I live close to the Chard station and have had lots of people ask me about the issue over the years and it is extremely frustrating for people.

"We are supposed to have more police officers in the country than ever, but what's the use if we can't get to them."

He added: "They should be accessible all the time but that's not the case.

"People like to see police face to face so they can communicate their problem properly.

"As a councillor I would try to encourage people to report crime, but the truth of the matter is that people are put off reporting an incident as they don't feel they will get through to anyone."
