TIM GROENEWALD is an injury doubt for Somerset’s Royal London One-Day Cup clash quarter-final clash with Worcestershire at the Cooper Associates County Ground tomorrow.

The 32-year-old South African bowler has picked up a neck spasm and could miss the game according to director of cricket Matt Maynard, although Somerset will have Josh Davey available after the all-rounder was released for the game by Cricket Scotland.

Somerset reached this stage after topping the South Group and, should they get past Worcestershire tomorrow, would face a semi-final tie with either Warwickshire or Essex for a place in the Lord’s showpiece.

“We know that Worcestershire will bring a very youthful, exuberant side who played some very good white ball cricket over the last two or three seasons,” said Maynard.

“So we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re confident in our ability to progress to the semi-finals.”

On his side’s run to the quarter-finals, Maynard said: “We've had a very consistent formula and done the basics well.

“Craig Overton has led the bowling brilliantly up front and Lewis Gregory has had a great tournament with both bat and ball.

“Ultimately I think it’s your bowlers who win you these competitions; your batsman put you in a position, but it’s how you contain and take wickets through the course of the innings and we’ve done that successfully.

“We’ve also shown a lot of character in certain games where it has looked like we were potentially losing them, but we’ve dug deep and pulled some tight victories out.”
