CHARD B completed an impressive hat-trick for the club’s men's teams on Saturday with a 7-1 home victory over ECV Hornets C in South East 3 of the Davis Wood league.

Fielding a team with a mix of experience and youth, they played some very direct hockey in the opening ten minutes.

The first goal was the result of a master class in movement as Nathan Johnson and Durgan Cooper passed the ball around the defence before Johnson scored.

Soon afterwards a shot was stopped on the line by a foot, Duncan Lewis scoring from the resulting penalty corner.

The visitors were relying on their pace and opened their account as a forward coolly scored in the corner.

Grahame Johnson then pulled off a series of good saves to maintain Chard’s advantage before Durgan and Toby Cooper added a goal apiece.

The second half was a lot more even as Exeter pushed forward and Chard limited themselves to quick breaks.

A great debut from Nick Parkinson was capped off as he started the move for Chard’s fifth. His pass released Andy Swain who set up Durgan Cooper for an easy knock-in.

Chard added two more for good measure – one from Toby Cooper and the other by Steve Dare from a penalty corner.
