CHARD firsts, who beat Torbay A 8-2 in the Davis Wood league on Saturday, entered the game on a winning streak and were in no mood to let things slip.

As the game progressed Chard began to press into the visitors’ half, applying plenty of pressure, and were awarded a penalty flick after a foul on the goal-line from a Torbay defender.

Brendan Viggers calmly converted.

After this Chard really started to take control of the game. They moved the ball around well and found Justin Green in great positions up front to add two more goals. By half time it was 5-0 – one score the result of good dribbling in the D from Liam Murphy and the other a mazy run from Brendan Viggers.

Chard began the second half as if it were still 0-0 and continued to apply pressure, Gary Wheaton adding a sixth from a nice reverse flick in the goalmouth.

Torbay were awarded a couple of penalty corners and managed to pull back two goals.

But this was too little too late as Chard continued to apply the pressure and added another two goals.

One came from Matt Sheahan on the reverse and the other from Murphy when a near-post pass was allowed to go in.
